Hayama is located in the northwest region of Miura Peninsula. It is bordered on the north by Zushi-shi, the east and south border Yokosuka-shi, and the west border is on the Sagami Gulf. It covers an area of 17.06Km2. The Morito River and the Shimoyama River both run through Hayama and flow into the Sagami Gulf. There are beautiful rolling mountains and beautiful forests here. It is kept green year round by a warm climate and by the Kuroshio Current that flows back into the Sagami Gulf and precipitation more than 100Km a year. The population of Hayama is about 33,000 and increases year by year.

There are five beautiful sandy beach areas they are Morito Beach, Shibasaki, Isshiki Beach, Koiso and Chojagasaki Beach. Furthermore, the coastline is beautiful with a distance of 4Km. Many reef areas are included in this coastline. These beaches were selected as "100 selection of Japanese Beach"in 1996. Three of these beaches, Morito, Isshiki and Chojagasaki are famous for enjoying swimming, water sports, windsurfing, boating and sun bathing. Hayama is known as the birthplace of yachting because it is believed that the first yacht was built by a Japanese person and played in the sea of Hayama in the early years of the Meiji era.
The six villages, Kikoba, Kamiyamaguchi, Shimoyamaguchi, Isshiki, Horiuchi, and Nagae merged Hayama Village by the enforcement of a municipality organization decree of 1889, and became Hayama Town in 1925. The Imperial Villa was built in 1894, and a lot of celebrities having built villas and houses here and it is noted as " The best place of rest".
Hayama is a very popular residential area and is about 50Km from Tokyo, and develops as a sightseeing spot.
